LinkedIn partners public agencies, NPOs to help challenged job seekers in Singapore

SINGAPORE (Nov 15): LinkedIn is introducing an extension of its LinkedIn Coaches global programme with the aim of connecting more than 2,000 job seekers facing barriers in Singapore to “economic opportunities with resources and networks to build meaningful careers”.

In order to do so, the professional networking platform has partnered non-profit organisations (NPOs) and public agencies such as the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) to reach out to job seekers through half-day career coaching workshops throughout 2019.

LinkedIn Coaches sessions are half-day career coaching workshops that may be customised based on the areas of personal branding, social capital & mentorship, access to LinkedIn Premium, and access to LinkedIn Learning.

Other public agency partners include the National Council of Social Service (NCSS), SG Enable, Singapore Corporation of Rehabilitative Enterprises (SCORE), Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) and Institute of Technical Education (ITE).

In a Thursday announcement, LinkedIn says its new programme will be piloted from Jan 2019 and serve as a platform to connect industry mentors and recruiters with out-of-work professionals, managers, executives and technicians (PMETs), rank-and-file workers, ex-offenders, persons with disabilities, and youths.

A launch session held on Wednesday saw the first 12 participants of the LinkedIn Coaches programme experience coaching sessions with 12 mentors from LinkedIn.

"This collaboration supports individuals and families – especially young people – from disadvantaged backgrounds by providing them with skills, opportunities, and networks to change their lives for the better. We welcome such private-public partnerships as a meaningful way for corporates to contribute to our society,” comments Desmond Lee, Minister of Social and Family Development, who attended the launch event yesterday.

“As Singapore continues to support job seekers especially from less advantaged backgrounds through this partnership, MSF and LinkedIn are in a unique position to equip them with the skills and resources they need to connect to opportunities,” adds Olivier Legrand, managing director, Asia Pacific, LinkedIn.
