Liu Wai-hung makes a comeback

6 Aug – Actor Liu Wai-hung, who has been living in mainland China and working on his organic agriculture business in the north, has recently announced his comeback to show business.

According to Sina, on 3 August, "The Good, The Bad And The Ugly" actor made an appearance with his wife and son, Liu Chun Yin, at a press conference to announce his return to Hong Kong.

Liu, who is best known as the immigrant Ah Chan, revealed that he has various plans to carry out in Hong Kong, which includes a new film, "Fai Woot Juen Kei".

He shared, "The film is set in the 70s, and is about the struggle of a group of Mainlanders in Hong Kong at the time. I will be playing the titular role, Brother Fai Woot."

When asked if the movie will deepen the conflict between China and Hong Kong, Liu said that his intentions are the exact opposite, and explained, "The post '90s generation doesn't understand Hong Kong's past. A lot of Hong Kong residents were actually new immigrants in the '60s and '70s. I want to reveal their contribution to the modern Hong Kong. This part of history cannot be overlooked."

He added, "I hope the production will start soon, in time for a release for next year's Hong Kong Film Award," and that an acquaintance of his will invest around HKD 12 million (app USD 1.5 million) for the movie production.

Liu also revealed his intention to publish a book about organic agriculture, and will be using the proceeds from the book for Chan Soh's bird's nest business, which in turn will use its profit to establish the Sunflower Foundation – an organisation that will help troubled youths to move on.
