After a sloppy start that was marked by penalties and turnovers, the Eagles and Packers put on fireworks display in Brazil, but it was Saquon Barkley who stole the show in a 34-29 Eagles win. The former Giants running back inked a three-year, $37.5 million dollar deal in the offseason that's paying dividends after just one game.

Barkley tied an Eagles record with three touchdowns in his debut — a mark that was set by Terrell Owens ion his first game with Philadelphia back in 2004. He had 24 carries for 109 yards on the ground with two rushing touchdowns and had two receptions for 23 yards an a receiving touchdown.

Jordan Love went 17-for-34 for 260 yards and two touchdowns for Green Bay, but was knocked out of the game and needed to be helped to the sideline with five seconds left as the Packers were trying for a desperation win. Malik Willis came in and threw an incomplete pass and then was sacked by Eagles' linebacker Zack Baun to end the game.

The Eagles got down to the 1-yard-line when the drive stalled out and left the Packers with 27 seconds

  • Hurts delivers to Smith again for a big first down

Breaking tendency with the clock stopped and the Packers having a timeout and the two-minute warning, Philly elected to throw the ball can got a first down inside the 10-yard-line. The Eagles can run out most of the remaining clock, as Green Bay can only stop the clock one more time.

  • Clutch first down on a Hurts to Smith connection

With 2:15 to go, Green Bay has started to use its timeouts with Philadelphia on the 18-yard-line. The Eagles drive has now covered 53 yards on 11 plays and taken 5:42 off the clock

  • Penalties continue to plague Green Bay

Twice on this drive Green Bay has been called for holding, and both have resulted in automatic first downs when the Eagles were behind the chains. Green Bay has now been flagged 10 times for 71 yards, as the clock ticks under 4:00 to play.

  • LeBron James is enjoying the show

  • Barkley over 100 yards

Philly is leaning on their new bell cow late in the game with Saquon Barkley carrying the mail to work on the clock. He's reached 103 yards on 19 carries as the clock approaches five minutes remaining.

  • Narveson hits from 26 yards to cut the lead to two

Brayden Narveson made up for the earlier missed field goal to get Green Bay to within two at 31-29. There are less than eight minutes left in the game and Green Bay is likely to see the ball again. Can Philadelphia protect the ball enough to salt the game way or will Jordan Love and company have another crack at a win? Either way, the Brazilian fans are getting a whale of a game for the NFL's first visit to South America.

  • Barkley joining some elite Eagles company with his three TD game

  • Another big one for Jayden Reed

3rd and 5 and Love finds reed on a deep crosser for 26 yards, and the Packers are just outside of the red zone. Reed now up to 105 yards receiving for the night

  • Josh Jacobs rips of another big one

Jacobs is up to 75 yards for the game after a 32-yard run to get Green Bay on the move. It took a chunk of the game to get going, but Green Bay's offense has been humming for the most part since the second quarter.

  • Jaire Alexander makes a huge play, intercepting Jalen Hurts in the endzone

Alexander may have just kept Green Bay in the game, getting the second Packers interception of the night. Philadelphia still leads and has gotten big nights from Saquon Barkley and A.J. Brown, but the three turnovers have stalled the offense at critical points of the game.

  • Saquon Barkley carries the Eagles into the fourth quarter

After the missed field goal, Barkley ripped off a 34-yard run to get the ball into Packers territory and improve on his big numbers. Through three quarters, he's got the three touchdowns and now 94 yards on the ground on 16 carries. Last season with the Giants, Barkley topped 94 rushing yards just once — a 128-yard effort on 36 carries in a loss to the Jets.

  • A doink from Packers' kicker Brayden Narveson

After getting stopped on a 3rd and 10, the Green Bay rookie kicker couldn't cut into the lead, missing a 43 yard field goal and catching an upright in the process.

  • Green Back is back on another march, and has the ball just outside of the red zone

Josh Jacobs had his biggest runs of the night, a 22-yard carry to get Green Bay into field goal range.

  • Saquon Barkley gets himself a hat trick in his Eagles debut as Philly retakes the lead

    🪄🎩

Its the second three-touchdown game for Barkley in his NFL career. He had two on the ground and one through the air with the Giants in a win against Tampa Bay in 2018.

  • Eagles come up with big turnover

Philly has its first takeaway of the night on a Reed Blankenship interception that sets up the Eagles deep in Packers territory with a shot at taking the lead.

  • Another punt!

Eagles quickly force a stop to get the ball back, and for the first time since the Eagles were turning the ball over and the Packers couldn't move it in the early part of the first quarter, the game has slowed down. The Packers still lead 26-24 nearly halfway through the third quarter.

  • After 8 straight drives ended in points, Packers finally force a punt

A defense has finally made another stop. The last drive that didn't end with a score in the game was the Eagles' fumbled snap but Packers edge Rashan Gary came up with a batted pass and a sack to halt some of Philadelphia's momentum.

  • Love tosses second TD of the night

Christian Watson was on the receiving end of this one, with the short TD reception. Its the seventh lead change of the game and the Packers lead 26-24.

  • Penalties are hurting the Eagles on this drive

Green Bay is back inside the red zone — with a first-and-goal — after rouging the passer and pass interference penalties got the ball to the 1-yard line.

  • Big plays are flying around on both sides of the field

The Packers are on the move, trying to answer the last Eagles touchdown, and got a big boost from a 29-yard reception from tight end Tucker Kraft to get Green Bay in scoring position.

  • Eagles pick up right where they left off in second half with long A.J. Brown TD pass

The two teams are trading haymakers at this point. Jalen Hurts to A.J. Brown for 67 yards. Brown has four receptions for 108 yards and this touchdown to put the Eagles back in front.

  • The turf in São Paolo is a story

At halftime, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said he expects many of his players to adjust their cleats. The turf has been slippery for both sides, and it hasn't escaped notice from the NFL world as a whole.

"Do whatever you gotta do, change cleats, but it has been a problem for sure," LaFleur said on Peacock at the end of the first half.

The NFL wants to grow its game internationally, and to do so it sends teams to other countries to play. Often those games are in stadiums that either never or rarely host American football games. You'd think the multi-billion dollar league would make sure it's not putting its players on subpar playing surfaces in the process.

  • Speed thrills

  • Eagles settle for field goal to end first half

Philly cuts the Green Bay lead to 19-17 to end an eventful first half and will get the ball to start the second half.

  • Eagles make their way into Packers territory, pick up 4th and 3 to keep drive alive

Devonta Smith made a tough catch to get the ball inside the Packers' 30 to keep the drive alive as Philly tries to answer the long Packers TD pass.

  • I hope you picked Jayden Reed in your fantasy draft, too

After a drive that started with two Jordan Love passes that were nearly interceptions, the Packers QB found Jayden Reed streaking across the middle of the field for a 70-yard touchdown on a third-and-10. It was the longest TD pass of Love's career. The Packers are back in front, 19-14, and the Reed-Barkley touchdown tally is tied 2-2.

  • Hope you picked Saquon Barkley in your fantasy draft

The newest member of the Eagles backfield is having a huge impact in Brazil, with now a second touchdown of the first half, this one on an 11-yard touchdown run. Philadelphia now leads 14-12. Here's a look that second Barkley score:

  • Another look at Saquon's first touchdown as an Eagle

  • Jayden Reed puts Green Bay back in front

The speedy receiver took a jet sweep 33 yards weaving through defenders to get his first touchdown of the season. The Packers came up short on a 2-point conversion attempt to make the score 12-7, with 10:16 left in the second quarter.

  • Welcome to Philadelphia (and Brazil) Saquon Barkley

The dual-threat running back made a leaping catch for his first grab and first touchdown with the Eagles, who now lead 7-6 despite the two Packers drives that started deep in Philly territory.

  • Eagles' first 'Tush Push' attempt of the season comes up short

On a third-and-1 in Packers territory, the first try without Jason Kelce didn't work out, but the Eagles did get a first down at the GB 28 after an offsides penalty on fourth down.

  • Philadelphia finally on the move as the first quarter comes to an end

Packers penalties (four for 35 yards) and Eagles turnovers (two, and both set Green Bay up in the red zone) have been the story of the first quarter. But the Packers have just a 6-0 lead.

The Eagles' offense looks in sync for the first time tonight, picking up their first couple of first downs in the game on the last drive of the quarter.

The two new running backs — the Packers' Josh Jacobs (6 carries, 4 yards) and Eagles' Saquon Barkley (3 carries, 3 yards) — haven't factored into the game yet.

  • Eagles dodge another bullet, hold Green Bay to a second field goal

Philadelphia has run six plays and Green Bay has had two drives start inside the Philadelphia red zone, and its the Eagles who have to be feeling good about where the game is right now. Green Bay has to be frustrated with just a 6-0 lead, and while the Eagles don't have a first down, the defense — and some Packers penalties — have kept them out of a huge early hole after the two turnovers deep in their own end.

  • Packers penalties keeping big points off the board

Green Bay has been penalized five times for 40 yards in the first quarter, including a 12-men on the field penalty that wiped a touchdown off the board on its first drive.

  • Disaster strikes again for Eagles with fumbled snap turnover

New Eagles center Cam Jurgens snapped the ball before Jalen Hurts was ready in the shotgun, and the Packers are set up in the red zone again to start a drive. Jurgens is stepping into the shoes of future Hall of Famer Jason Kelce, who retired after last season after 13 years at the pivot for Philadelphia.

  • Packers settle for field goal after interception

Green Bay takes an early lead on a 31-yard field goal, and surely the Eagles are breathing a sigh of relief after the Xavier McKinney interception that got the Green Bay drive started deep in Philly territory.

  • Xavier McKinney picks off Jalen Hurts to set Green Bay up in great field position

After losing 5 yards on first down because of a Saquon Barkley slip, Jalen Hurts turned the ball over via an INT to Xavier McKinney, who returned it inside the red zone on a third-and-long. McKinney signed a big free-agent deal with the Packers this offseason and it seems to be already paying dividends.

  • Packers run out of steam and are forced to punt in Eagles territory

Green Bay had lined up to go for it on a fourth-and-6 at the Eagles' 38, but a false start ended Green Bay's hopes of a score on its opening drive, and after a good punt, Philly will take over in the shadow of its own goalpost for its first drive of the season.

  • Green Bay opens with the ball and Romeo Doubs makes the first big play of the game

Doubs picks up 16 yards on a third down to get Packers into Eagles territory on their first drive.

  • Both Philadelphia and Green Bay are looking to bounce back and build after playoff losses in 2023

The two clubs are entering this year with very different momentum coming off last year's postseason runs. The Eagles, who were coming off a Super Bowl appearance, fumbled away a huge lead in the NFC East over the last six games of the regular season and got blown out by Tampa Bay in the wild-card round to end their season. Green Bay, meanwhile, rode a hot finish by quarterback Jordan Love into the playoffs and all the way to the divisional round where they lost a tight game to the eventual NFC champion 49ers.

Yahoo Sports' Frank Schwab dove into how both teams are entering the season, heading into the opener in Brazil.

    On the Eagles:

"Philadelphia added running back Saquon Barkley in free agency. There was an explosive story from ESPN that detailed the strained relationship between Sirianni and quarterback Jalen Hurts, which will get brought up many more times if the Eagles get off to a slow start.

The Eagles' roster is still championship worthy. But we'll find out starting Friday if the stink of last season's finish has worn off."

    On the Packers:

"The Packers finished last season very well and look better on paper this season.

It's all a mystery until the teams kick off in São Paulo, Brazil. There are always severe overreactions to anything that happens in Week 1, and given how the Packers and Eagles seasons flipped in November last season, both fan bases will spend all weekend overanalyzing whatever happens on Friday night."

  • The Eagles are ready to open the season

  • This visit to Sao Paulo is the NFL's first visit to South America and the southern hemisphere

A huge first for the NFL, taking a regular season game to South America. Cultural, logistical, financial and competitive changes are part of whenever the game travels overseas, but the opposite seasons are a part of it as well. Spring is just getting started in Sao Paulo, and the weather is perfect for tonight's game. No rain expected in the forecast with temperatures set for the low 60s.

  • Eagles have released inactive list for tonight

  • Packers inactives for tonight

    • 18 WR Malik Heath

    • 32 RB MarShawn Lloyd

    • 53 DL Arron Mosby

    • 57 DL Brenton Cox Jr.

    • 76 T Kadeem Telfort

    • 79 T Travis Glover

  • After booing him for the start of his NFL career, Eagles fans will get used to cheering Saquon Barkley pretty quickly

Six seasons. Two Pro Bowls. Three 1,000-yard rushing seasons. Saquon Barkely has been one ofe the best running backs in the league since he arrived out of Penn State in 2018, and after he and the Giants were unable to reach a deal, Barkley signed a three-year deal, worth $37.5 million for a chance to win a Super Bowl with an Eagles team that was perhaps the best in the league, with a 10-1 record through the first 11 games, before stumbling to an 11-6 record and a stunning playoff flameout in the Wild Card round, at Tampa Bay.
