    A Singaporean busker was performing at London's Covent Garden when was punched by a stranger.

    Bryan Wong, who is also a circus artist, shared a video of the incident on TikTok but it has since been removed.

    Wong subsequently posted a video on the same platform and addressed the situation. The man invaded his performance space twice, and the attack happened during the second occurrence.

    Wong, who was in London preparing for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, repeated multiple times that he tried to "play it off" when the man disrupted his performance.

    Loh Kean Yew secured a victory over China's Li Shi Feng on Thursday (1 Aug) to clinch a spot in the quarter-finals at the Paris Olympics.

    Loh is the second-ever Singaporean to do so.

    However, the badminton player is facing the defending men's singles champion Viktor Axelsen next. Loh said, "I’m trying not to be overjoyed because the job's not done – it's still ongoing."

    Malaysian singer-songwriter, Nicholas Tan, is taking a leaf out of Taylor Swift's book.

    His latest creation is a song born from his frustration and disappointment with AirAsia over his missing luggage.

    It contained his instrument, and other music gear, which were part of his livelihood. He tried to resolve the issue with AirAsia but claimed they 'ghosted' him eventually.

    Now, he's hitting back with a song.

    Chinese swimmer Pan Zhanle set a new world record at the 100m freestyle but his stunning achievement has been overshadowed by doping suspicions surrounding the Chinese athletes.

    Brett Hawke, a leading Australian swimming coach, described his feat as "not humanly possible".

    Pan's not only outclassed leading athletes in the category, but also created the largest winning margin since 1928.

    Hawke, who has studied this sport for 30 years, said, "That’s not real, you don’t beat that field [by a body length]."

    Singapore has seen a surge in illegal vape use across the last two years, with 5,480 offenders caught in just the first half of 2024.

    This is almost two-thirds the number of offenders in 2023, which saw 7,838 individuals caught for possessing or using e-vaporisers. In 2022, the number was 4,916.

    According to a joint statement by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Health Sciences Authority (HSA) on Thursday (1 Aug), the rise in cases is due to their intensified efforts to crack down on vape use.

    Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh was killed by a bomb that was planted "months ago", according to The New York Times.

    The bomb was detonated remotely when it was confirmed that Haniyeh was inside the guesthouse. He had stayed in that property several times in the past.

    Israel has not taken responsibility for the attack but is bracing itself for retaliation from Iran.

    A survey revealed that 64 per cent of Singaporean businesses paid a ransom during cyberattacks in 2023.

    Of the 64 per cent, almost half of them paid between US$100,000 (S$133,368) and US$499,999

    Ransomware is a type of malicious software (malware) designed to block access to a computer system or files, typically by encrypting them, until a ransom is paid.

    The attacker demands payment, usually in cryptocurrency, in exchange for a decryption key that will restore access to the locked files or system.

    The police in Taiwan have busted the largest illegal pornography ring in their history.

    449 men were arrested and they are suspected of breaching Taiwan’s Child and Youth Sexual Exploitation Prevention Act, money laundering and engaging in organised crime.

    Authorities revealed that 180 subscribers were also arrested.

    The operation targeted two platforms and two Telegram groups, where trafficked content included sexual images of children and teenagers, and footage of women in restaurant bathrooms, bars, and other public places, filmed without their knowledge.

  • Quah Jing Wen just posted about the Olympics chocolate muffins. What is it about?

    If you've only been following Team Singapore athletes on their Olympics journey, you might have seen a recent video from swimmer Quah Jing Wen about a chocolate muffin.

    The caption reads, "When you see the infamous Olympics chocolate muffin but don't want to steal them from that one Norwegian swimmer."

    Without context, it's hard to understand the lore behind her caption.

    So what is going on with this fabled chocolate muffin?

    Well, it started with Norwegian swimmer Henrik Christiansen, who went viral on TikTok after this obsession with this chocolate muffin served at the Olympic Village. He did a review on the food he consumed and rated the muffin the best at 11/10.

    Christiansen then continued a series of TikTok videos documenting his love affair with the pastry and it went viral.

  • Jamie Lee Curtis: Bashing Marvel was 'stupid'

    When asked by MTV in a rapid-fire interview what phase the MCU was in now, Jamie Lee Curtis quipped, "Bad."

    While most might shrug it off, Curtis has been feuding with Marvel since 2023 when she proclaimed the Oscar-winning film Everything Everywhere All at Once as the superior multiverse film.

    Her comments rubbed MCU fans the wrong way.

    Curtis then backtracked on her comments on Thursday (1 Aug), calling the shade on Marvel "stupid".

    In an Instagram post, she promised to "do better" and said she has "reached out to Kevin Feige".

  • Turkey Olympic shooter claims silver with 'just a pair of glasses'

    While other Olympic shooters came geared with specialised equipment – think South Korea's Kim Ye-ji – Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikeç snagged the silver medal with nothing but a pair of glasses and confidence.

    The 51-year-old went viral because he was a picture of "top confidence" (according to a user on X) during his competition. Dikeç was dressed in a casual competition attire and what seems to be a pair of normal glasses.

    He then took aim, with his left hand snug in his pant pocket, and fired his way to victory.

    The internet, predictably, went wild.
