SINGAPORE — Singapore fans of English Premier League-leading Liverpool have more reasons to cheer for their beloved team: the football club have just opened a branch of their official merchandise stores at Bugis Junction.

Yahoo News Singapore understands that the store’s official opening is in January 2020, most likely before the Chinese New Year.

However, since the Christmas period this month, it has already opened its doors for the sizeable Liverpool fan base in Singapore.

According to the Bugis Junction website’s description, the Liverpool FC official store “offers a wide range of club merchandise, jerseys and memorabilia for fans of all ages”.

Replica of Shankly Gates

When Yahoo News Singapore visited the premises on Friday (27 December), the store was teeming with shoppers, some of whom stopped to take selfies at the store’s “Shankly Gates”, a replica of the famous gates at the Reds’ beloved Anfield stadium.

Inside, a large television screen showed video clips of the club’s recent Champions League victory parade around the city of Liverpool.

While most of the merchandise are available for purchase online on Liverpool’s official website, fans like businessman Mohamed Faizal still prefer to coming to the store to peruse the memorabilia.

“I can try out the jerseys to find the ones that fit my size,” the 42-year-old said. “And the whole experience is better than buying stuff online.”

One of four stores outside of Britain

The Singapore LFC official store is one of four branches outside of Britain, with the others in Dublin, Abu Dhabi and Bangkok. A branch that had opened in Kuala Lumpur ceased operations in March this year.

There are six official stores in Britain, including one at Anfield and two in the Liverpool city centre.

Liverpool have been flying high in the Premier League with a 13-point lead over second-placed Leicester City after the Boxing Day round of matches. They have yet to taste defeat after 18 matches this season.
