Luis Diaz is reportedly ahead of schedule in his knee injury rehabilitation and is on course to make his Liverpool comeback in December.
The winger is currently making good progress in his recovery from the problem he suffered in the 3-2 loss to table-topping Arsenal back in early October.
The 25-year-old went back to Colombia to undergo rehab and spend some time with his family.
However, he is back in England and, according to Football Insider, the Reds are confident he will be back in full training soon and will be able to join the mid-season camp in Dubai.
And former Leeds forward Noel Whelan feels the return of Diaz will be huge for the Reds.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have been inconsistent domestically and sit sixth in the Premier League table. They are currently seven points off fourth-placed Tottenham but do have a game in hand.
Getting Diaz back in their forward line will be a welcome relief for Klopp, and Whelan is confident he will make a big difference when he is back.
He told Football Insider, when told about Diaz’s potential early return: “This is huge news. Diaz was in outstanding form before his injury and often looked the best player in the team.
“It will be like a new signing for Jurgen Klopp, who missed him badly when he was out. Perfect early Christmas present.”
Diaz set for return in City cup clash
The Colombia star should be back in time for the Carabao Cup clash with Manchester City on December 22.
Diaz was initially sidelined for three months after coming off in the first half of the loss to the Gunners.
His absence has been sorely missed, especially in the Premier League. Although the Reds have also been found wanting in midfield and defensively.
Mo Salah, Darwin Nunez and Robert Firmino had had to shoulder the workload in attack, with Diogo Jota also sidelined.
Indeed, the latter is not expected to return until the new year due to a serious calf problem.
Following their cup clash with City, the Reds then face Premier League clashes with Aston Villa and Leicester before the year ends.
