Liverpool vs Aston Villa, Premier League preview: Prediction, start time, team news, TV, live stream, h2h, odds

Liverpool may be Premier League champions but as far as Jurgen Klopp is concerned his side will have something to prove when they take on Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Reds wrapped up the title after Manchester City lost at Chelsea but their celebrations were brought to an abrupt halt when they were stunned 4-0 by a ruthless City side on Thursday.

Klopp's men are still 20 points clear and have several Premier League records within touching distance, and they will want to get back to winning ways against relegation-threatened Villa.

The Midlands outfit haven't won in their four games since the restart and must start picking up points if they are to survive.

But coming up against the newly-crowned champions who will be smarting from a defeat doesn't bode well for Dean Smith's side.

Date, time and venue

Liverpool vs Aston Villa is scheduled for a 4.30pm BST kick-off on Sunday, July 5, 2020.

The match will be behind closed doors at Anfield with no fans due to be present inside the stadium due to government guidelines regarding coronavirus.

Team news

Jurgen Klopp will likely look to freshen up his starting XI when Liverpool take on Aston Villa at Anfield on Sunday.

The German named an unchanged line-up from the Reds’ 4-0 win over Crystal Palace ahead of them ending up on the wrong end of the same scoreline at Manchester City on Thursday.

Having both featured as substitutes at the Etihad Stadium, Takumi Minamino and Naby Keita could be in line for opportunities to impress.

However, wholesale changes involving promising youngsters such as Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott have already been ruled out by Klopp.

The game is likely to come too soon for Xherdan Shaqiri, who recently returned to training following a lengthy absence, while Dejan Lovren is also set to remain sidelined.

Predicted Liverpool XI (4-3-3): Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Henderson, Keita, Salah, Minamino, Mane.

Prediction: Liverpool 4-0 Aston Villa

It would take an extraordinary effort from the visitors to stop a side who have won their last 23 Premier League home fixtures and haven't suffered a home defeat here in the league since April 2017.

A resounding victory for Liverpool should follow to demonstrate exactly why they are champions.

Head to head (h2h) history and results

Liverpool boast a fine record over Aston Villa going back over the years, with 95 victories compared to Villa's 58.

The last time the visitors came away with a win here was back in September 2014, when they won 1-0 at Anfield.
