The world's oldest choir took to the stage in Warwickshire just in time for Christmas carols in one of the heartwarming stories leading our weekly local news round-up.

Coventry Live reported how the group of 17 care home residents, with an average age of 94, performed at a hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon to set a new Guinness World Record.

There was a festive flavour elsewhere as a creative pilot plotted a Christmas tree-shaped course - complete with baubles - over Gloucestershire, and a father and daughter team of prison officers prepared to work together in a Suffolk prison on Christmas Day.

A choir of 17 care home residents, known as the Prime Timers, has become the world's oldest with an average age of 94.

The members, aged between 87 and 99, performed at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon on Thursday to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the oldest choir globally.

The previous record was held by St John’s House in York, which broke the record in 2013 with 13 members averaging 91 years old.

A Piper pilot has delivered an early festive present by drawing the outline of a Christmas tree.  Release date – December 20, 2024.  A little Piper plane at 2,400 feet above Gloucestershire produced the image of a clear green tree rendered on the flight tracking website Flightradar24.  The tree - completed with baubles - stretched for several kilometers starting and finishing in Gloucester.  The plane flew for more than an hour and reached different altitudes.  It crossed over towns and cities such as Ledbury, Stourport on Severn and Worcester.  Flightradar24 is a live flight-tracking website that shows air traffic in real time.

A pilot has spread some early Christmas cheer by sketching the outline of a festive tree in the sky. The small Piper aircraft, flying at an altitude of 2,400 feet over Gloucestershire, created the image of a distinct green tree on the flight tracking website Flightradar24.

The tree - adorned with baubles - spanned several kilometres, beginning and ending in Gloucester. The plane was airborne for over an hour, reaching various altitudes.

A father and daughter will spend Christmas working in a Suffolk prison.

Scott and Lilli Newton both work at HMP Highpoint, where they will be on duty on December 25 to help keep the public safe.

The pair, aged 45 and 19, play a key role within the prison service, with Scott, a custodial manager, nearing 20 years of service.

A van driver was caught red-handed eating a bowl of cereal on a bustling motorway, while another trucker was filmed hurling abuse at police from an undercover HGV amid a crackdown on dangerous driving.

Shocking footage also captured a lorry driver in South Yorkshire typing on a tablet or laptop as he drove. Meanwhile, a Ford Focus motorist was seen texting with both hands on their phone.

A council has told parents they must come in and change their children if they soil themselves at school.

The new rule comes into force in schools across Blaenau Gwent next term for children in reception and nursery classes.

The local authority has sent out letters to parents saying the amount of time school staff are having to spend changing children sent to school without being potty trained is affecting teaching and learning time.

A hen party descended into chaos after a fight broke out because of "queue jumping" in the toilets at a busy train station.

Dionne Pearson had been out in Newcastle city centre with her family and friends celebrating her forthcoming nuptials when a disagreement occurred between her party and a woman, Nadia Rhodes, in the female toilets at Newcastle Central Station. A court heard that Rhodes had queue jumped and tensions flared as a result.

Prosecutors said that CCTV then captured Rhode's partner, Lee Moore, enter the toilets and a fight subsequently spilling out onto the platform.
