A mother-of-three broke her plans for a dry January by cracking open champagne to celebrate winning a £4m home in one of our local stories of the week.

Somerset Live reported how the primary school teacher won a Lake District mansion in the latest Omaze Million Pound House Draw.

A Somerset mum won a £4m home - then immediately broke her 'dry January' with a bottle of champagne. Primary school teacher Hannah Drury, 42, scooped the latest Omaze Million Pound House Draw - a secluded mansion in the Lake District at Coniston Water.

Opera-singer Hannah, who lives in Frome, won the keys to the waterside home worth £4m along with £250,000 in cash. She then immediately broke her 'Dry Jan' promise to celebrate - with some bubbly.

An army major will attempt to break a world record while running the London Marathon with a fridge.

Joss Mowforth, 32, aka the London Fridge, is originally from Scotland but has worked in the army for 10 years. He now works as an officer at Bulford Camp on Salisbury Plain.

He will run the London Marathon on 27 April while carrying a 25kg fridge on his back - and he wants to break the world record.

Police were called after 'a number of boys' were spotted launching snowballs at vehicles outside a supermarket.

Officers say they received reports of 'anti-social behaviour' outside the Sainsbury's branch in Biddulph.

And after the afternoon incident on Monday the parents of three boys were contacted. Staffordshire Police say officers were sent to the car park off Wharf Road at around 1.30pm on Monday.

A Cornish secondary school has issued a behaviour and uniform warning to parents after pupils returned to mass detentions on their first week back at school for 2025.

Penair School in Truro said it would be "reinforcing" and "reminding" pupils of its expectations and that it expects uniform to be "worn correctly" from the moment children arrive at school until their departure.

The school said it will not be issuing any reminders and children will be issued with a ten-minute detention the following day if "high expectations" are not met.

A stupid dealer dumped his drugs on a takeaway table and winked at the person sat there - only to discover it was a policeman on his lunch break.

Leo Scales, 26, was pulled over and spoken to by police after his passenger went into the takeaway in Main Street, Rotherham, in May 2023. Officers believed he was not qualified to drive the car and wanted to check, but Scales told them he had to go and speak with his friend.

A mountain rescue hero has shared his close encounter with two lynx that were illegally released into the Highlands earlier this week.

Willie Anderson, deputy team leader of the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team, said he came within 60 yards of the animals after his neighbour raised the alarm to him.

The pair were first spotted wandering woodland in the Drumguish area, near Kingussie, on Wednesday afternoon before being safely captured the following day.
