A Leicestershire bridge that has seen repeated collisions has again been hit by a lorry.

The rail crossing, over the A5 at Hinckley, was struck on Wednesday morning, with the vehicle involved shedding its load.

The A5 has been closed in both directions between the A47 and junction 1 of the M69, leading to congestion in the area.

Last year it was revealed the bridge had been hit by high vehicles 88 times between 2017 and September 2022.

Leicestershire Police are on scene and are arranging for recovery and clear-up works to take place, travel officers said.

Diversions via the B4114 and A47 have been set up.

There are no reports of any injuries

In 2023 transport body Midlands Connect analysed four of the bridge strikes and found the delays cost the economy £126,000, with rail delays costing another £43,000.
