A 12-bottle lot of Domaine de la Romanée Conti was sold for 32,200 euros

A 12-bottle assortment by the prestigious Burgundy winemaker found a buyer for 32,200 euros at an auction organized by Artcurial Paris on September 19 and 20.

Estimated at 22,000 to 24,000 euros, the lot of Domaine de la Romanée Conti was composed of 12 bottles of 1989 vintage wines bearing the Burgundy producer's most sought-after labels: Romanée Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Echezeaux, Grand Echezeaux and Romanée Saint Vivant. The auction was won by a European collector.

The assortment proved to be the star of the auction which toataled 995,789 euros in sales.

Tales of the high prices fetched at auction by Domaine de la Romanée Conti wines hardly raise an eyebrow in the wake of the enormous sums paid for vintages by the Burgundy producer in recent times. In Cannes in July of this year, a 12-bottle case of assorted Romanée-Conti 1996 vintages was sold for a record 36,225 euros. A month earlier, a 1999 jeroboam by the winemaker was sold by Baghera in Geneva for 76,300 euros.
