Louisa Mak refuses to conform to expectation

20 May - Louisa Mak has recently expressed her frustration over the criticisms that have been coming her way since she won Miss Hong Kong last year.

As reported on Mingpao News, the beauty queen, who gained attention at last year's Miss Hong Kong pageant for her intelligence – being a Cambridge Law graduate who previously scored 10A in her HKCEE – more than her physical beauty, found her positive influence slowly decreasing since she decided to join showbiz.

After failing to place top five in the Miss Chinese International pageant, and making headlines for being thrown out from the Cambridge Spring Ball during her visit for TVB's new travelogue programme, Louisa was also recently criticised by Netizens for wasting her intelligence on becoming a TVB celebrity.

She recently took to Facebook to express herself, saying that she doesn't want to be stereotyped as a nerd who has to work as a professional.

"Miss Hong Kong can also be a bit rude and absent-minded, and a serious person can be a little bit crazy. Trust me, I want to break this label more than anyone," she said.

"So what if you pass a public exam with flying colours? You still have to work hard to get into university. So what if you graduated from a top university? There are graduates from these places who still can't find job or even afford a home. So what if you win Miss Hong Kong? You still have to work. You have to continue to fight, to fulfill your potential and realise your dream," she added.
