Ex Love Island stars Ellie Brown and Michael Griffiths have revealed that they are both single, despite getting together while appearing on Ex On The Beach.

Ellie confirmed that they coupled up after she saw a new side of Michael in the Ex On The Beach villa - one she said people did not see on Love Island in 2019.

However, they decided to not go further with their romance in order to prevent anyone’s feelings from getting hurt.

The star, who appeared on Love Island in 2018, explained on The Reality Tea podcast: “Obviously, Michael had been through the experience that he had been through with Love Island so he was a little bit sensitive and he was so scared to go through what he went through again, so we all became quite protective of him quite quick.

“When we got to know him we realised ‘Oh my god, you’re really nice’ and understood situations that didn’t look right on the TV. And we could see how much he was hurting and we all got quite protective over him.’

The 22-year-old added: “It was the final week, wasn’t it? And we kind of just like got closer through being best mates in there. It was like it weren’t supposed to happen. And then we are together on the last week, but it wasn’t supposed to happen. But it’s quite cute to watch.”

However, the unlikely relationship did not last long as they split up after the show finished filming, with Michael telling Ellie that he “didn’t want to hurt her,” so they decided not to make things official.

Michael chipped in and added: “Right. So I’ll explain it from my point. So from the get go, I said to Ellie that I didn’t want anything to kind of progress any way because I thought that I would hurt her.”

In response, Ellie said: “Yeah, when we left the villa we said we weren’t in a relationship. That was always like set in stone.”

Michael concluded: “So was I. I don’t want it to go anywhere because I know I’m gonna hurt you. And I don’t want to lose the friendship that I’ve got with you because I adore Elllie, I do.”

Speaking about the break-up, Ellie revealed: “It’s such a tough one, I don’t even think we really understand it. I think it’s more just that we hit the nail on the head before.

“Like you always said, you never go beyond that point because you didn’t want me to get feelings or whatever and then I think when it did go beyond that point, that’s when it got a bit messy. And it was kind of just like it had to be left.”

While on Love Island, Michael famously broke up with eventual winner Amber Gill in scenes that dominated headlines.

He went on to couple up with Joanna Chimonides before attempting to return to Amber when Joanna was dumped from the villa.

Ellie was coupled up with socialite Charlie Brake the year before, and ended her relationship with Charlie just months after they left the villa in the summer of 2018.

Ellie emerged from the sea on the first episode of Celebrity Ex on The Beach on January 21 to greet ex Joey Essex, having had a brief romance with the TOWIE star after she left Love Island two years ago.

Celebrity Ex On The Beach launched yesterday on MTV and is billed as the celebrity version for the 11th series because, for the first time, it features a set of famous cast members including TV personality Calum Best, Olympic athlete Ashley McKenzie, Love Island Georgia Harrison and The Valleys star Lateysha Grace.
