Love Island's Ollie Williams gets engaged to girlfriend he quit the show for

·2-min read

Following one's heart has paid off for at least one Love Island contestant as Ollie Williams has just proposed to his girlfriend.

In 2020, Ollie — whose stint on the show was controversial once his big game hunter activity came to light — shocked fans when he decided to exit the programme to get back with his ex Laura Nofer after a brief villa fling with Paige Turley.

Now, the couple have gotten engaged after he popped the question while they were enjoying a day out on the Cornish moor.

"Strange things happen up on the Moor!" he captioned the snaps of him and Laura flaunting her ring.

At the time of his stay in the villa, Ollie realised he was still in love with Laura and asked producers to leave.

"I have to be honest with myself, and everyone, that I do still love someone else. I have to follow my heart in this scenario and it would be wrong for me to ignore these feelings," he told the Beach Hut back then.

"At the end of the day, this is Love Island and it's about finding love. If I carried on anything with Paige or any other girl that might come into the villa, it wouldn't be fair on them."

In an interview with The Sun, he explained his experience on Love Island made him see things more clearly.

"I suddenly realised I was trying to develop feelings for Paige and my brain was telling me to do it, but I knew my heart was elsewhere. It wasn't going to change," he said.

"The girls in there made me realise just how special Laura was to me, and unless she had walked through the doors then it wouldn't matter. I turned to the producers and said, 'I don't think I can be here anymore'. They said to give it 24 hours and my feelings got stronger and they were supportive about me leaving."

Love Island airs on ITV2, and is available via catch up on ITVX and BritBox.
