LP leader says candidates must spend for their own campaign in 2013

THE Liberal Party (LP) members in the local level should be prepared for the expenses needed in the campaign period and not rely on any funding from the LP headquarters.

LP-Cebu chairman Hilario “Junjun” Davide III said in an interview that politicians are expected to spend their own money for the campaign.

This came after Budget Secretary Florencio Abad announced that LP local candidates should not expect any funding during the campaign period.

Earlier, he said President Benigno Aquino III has clarified the administration will not use government resources for campaigning for the party’s candidates.

“That is why every candidate should be prepared also to spend,” Davide told reporters.

Aspirant

Davide, LP gubernatorial aspirant, said it is necessary that there are expenses in the campaign.

“Ang Liberal Party is not really known nga always mogamit og kwarta (of using money).

We rely on the candidates’ capability and in filling up for the principle that we stand for the party. We do not believe that money is the key to victory,” Davide said.

He said if someone would seek public office, it would entail a lot of expenses.

Support

Davide said a political aspirant’s relatives and friends will have to support him in the election.

Davide said he is authorized by the LP national to nominate and issue certificates of nomination to the provincial candidates under LP.

He said they will announce their full lineup on Sept. 28.

Davide is set to face Rep. Pablo John Garcia (Cebu Province, 3rd district) for the gubernatorial position in the next year’s election.
