LTA awards $325M contract to build new platform at Tanah Merah Station

The Land Transport Authority has awarded a S$325 million contract to build an additional platform at the Tanah Merah MRT station.

The new platform will reduce travel time to Changi Airport, said the LTA on Monday (26 Oct).

Lum Chang Building Contractors Pte Ltd has been awarded the contract to build the new platform and viaducts.

Construction is expected to begin at the end of 2016 and end in 2024.

Commuters will be able to travel more quickly between Expo and Changi Airport MRT stations because trains can arrive and depart at Tanah Merah station at shorter intervals than the current timings, said LTA.

The additional platform gives room for one pair of dedicated tracks for the East-West Line and Changi Airport Line each, with trains plying between Tanah Merah and Changi Airport stations to use the two middle tracks.
