The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded contracts for five more city direct services to two private bus operators, it said on Monday (14 Dec).

In a statement, LTA said the new bus services will operate from Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Clementi/Dover, Punggol and Yishun to the central business district (CBD) during the morning peak hours and back from the CBD during evening peak hours.

The contracts for the Bedok, Clementi/Dover and Yishun services have been awarded to Tong Tar Transport Service Pte Ltd for about $3.41 million in total.

The contracts for Ang Mo Kio and Punggol services have been awarded to BT&TAN Transport Pte Ltd for about $2.46 million in total.

The journey time with is comparable to that of taking a bus or MRT into the city due to fewer stops and the use of expressways, the LTA noted.

The new bus services will launch progressively from February 2016 onwards, it added.

The city direct service was launched under LTA’s bus service enhancement program. In the past three years, 15 city direct services have been launched. The addition of the new services brings the total number of city direct bus services to 20.
