Another e-scooter sharing firm has been charged in court for offering device-sharing services in public places without a licence.

Neuron Mobility’s prosecution under the Parking Places Act on Thursday (28 February) comes a week after the Land Transport Authority (LTA) hauled Telepod to court on 21 February for the same offence.

In a statement on Thursday, LTA said that as of Monday (25 February), it had impounded 144 Neuron Mobility e-scooters, which had been unlawfully made available for hire at public places.

LTA added that it had provided repeated written warnings to Neuron Mobility not to do so.

Under the Parking Places Act, such services require a licence or exemption approved by the transport minister.

Exemptions have been given to Telepod and Neuron Mobility to provide sharing services for personal mobility devices at specific locations such as one-north.

Last week, LTA said it had impounded 68 Telepod e-scooters as of 14 February, similarly following repeated written warnings to the firm.

Among the locations where Telepod and Neuron Mobility’s devices were impounded were Esplanade Drive, Bayfront Avenue, Bencoolen Street, Battery Road and Outram Road.

If found guilty on each charge, unlicensed operators can be fined up to $10,000 and jailed up to six months. The firms also face a further fine of $500 per day or part of a day during which the offence continues after conviction.
