Luc Besson offers a first look at 'Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets'

"Valerian", the most expensive European movie ever made, seemed destined to be a financial disaster for its director and producer Luc Besson when it bombed in the US

The first teaser trailer for the big budget adaptation of the French cult sci-fi graphic novel series is here.

When it officially arrives in US cinemas in July 2017, Luc Besson's latest directorial outing, "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets," promises a visual spectacular.

The story focuses on time-traveling government agents Valerian and Laureline (played by Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne, respectively) attempting to bring peace to a fractured galaxy and trying to complete their mission without their personal feelings compromising operations.

Adapted by Besson from the graphic novels by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières, the film's cast also boasts Ethan Hawke, John Goodman, Clive Owen, Rutger Hauer and R&B star Rihanna.
