We love a Netflix movie, which is why we're so excited that the new Mila Kunis-led film, Luckiest Girl Alive, has landed on the streaming service. And you know what we love more than a thriller? A thriller that was inspired by a book.
Based on the novel by Jessica Knoll (and produced by Reese Witherspoon, no less!), the film focuses on Ani FaNelli, a New Yorker with the seemingly perfect life who's actually hiding a dark secret. Here's what we know about Luckiest Girl Alive, including the release date, trailer, cast and plot.
What is Luckiest Girl Alive about?
Mila Kunis stars as lead character Ani in the film, and things are set to get dark. According to the official Netflix synopsis: "Luckiest Girl Alive centers on Ani FaNelli, a sharp-tongued New Yorker who appears to have it all: a sought-after position at a glossy magazine, a killer wardrobe, and a dream Nantucket wedding on the horizon.
"But when the director of a crime documentary invites her to tell her side of the shocking incident that took place when she was a teenager at the prestigious Brentley School, Ani is forced to confront a dark truth that threatens to unravel her meticulously crafted life."
Is there a Luckiest Girl Alive trailer?
There is indeed and it's pretty gripping, with a number of flashbacks taking us back to the mysterious high school incident. It's hard to grasp exactly what went down just from the trailer, but we're expecting some huge revelations. Have a watch here:
Who is starring in Luckiest Girl Alive?
Joining Mila Kunis is Finn Wittrock, who plays Ani’s fiancé Luke. There's also Chiara Aurelia as young TifAni (the name Ani went by as a teenager).
Other confirmed cast members include Scoot McNairy, Thomas Barbusca, Justine Lupe, Jennifer Beals and Connie Britton.

The Luckiest Girl Alive is available to stream on Netfix now! The film dropped on the platform on 7 October, which makes it perfect for weekend viewing.

Judging by the reaction on Twitter, people are big fans of the adaptation. As one person put it, "May I recommend Luckiest Girl Alive on Netflix. And before you assume, it's no a chick flick. But it's brilliant."
Someone else said, "If you want to watch a movie based on a book on Netflix , watch Luckiest Girl Alive… Mila Kunis did an excellent job 10/10."
Others were less impressive though - The Guardian insisted "there is no twist, as the film’s echoes of a thriller suggest" while someone else called it "formulaic." Eek.
