LANGKAWI: A cunning man who was involved in a Macau loan scam was arrested by the Langkawi Commercial Crime Investigation Department.
The 34-year-old suspect, who was residing in Kampung Lubuk Setul, was nabbed at the compound of Langkawi Police Headquarters at around 9.30pm last night.
The Langkawi district police chief Superintendent Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said following a report lodge by a victim who lost RM144,000, the police found that the suspect owns an account linked to Macau scam.
“Based on the report from the victim, the police tried to hunt down the suspect at his house but was unsuccessful. However, the suspect turned himself in last night,” he said when contacted today, adding that the suspect was also active in Alor Star, Kedah, and Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
“He would impersonate a civil servant and told his victims that they have some pending credit card payments,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code and the suspect is remanded starting today. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
