PUTRAJAYA: DAP will continue to propagate PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang's Private Member's Bill to their advantage as they want to be seen as the party championing the issue.
Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said for Pakatan Harapan comprising of DAP, PKR, DAP, Parti Amanah Negara and its latest addition Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), it has become a norm to politicise everything.
"If they can, they will politicise everything in the country throughout 365 days," he said today.
The Private Member's Bill, also known as RUU 355, aims to strengthen the Syariah laws and Syariah courts, has been amended twice in Parliament, he added.
"Let's say if it is passed, states can decide whether or not they want make the amendments which only involve the Muslims under Syariah Courts.
"There will be no items from the civil courts that will be brought to Syariah courts.
"Just because DAP wants to look as if they are championing the matter, the matter has been blown out of proportion," said Mahdzir, who is also the Barisan Nasional Padang Terap MP.
He said the matter shouldn't be used provoke and create disharmony among Malaysians.
"If the matter is sensitive to one person, it could also be sensitive another person as well," he added.
Mahdzir, also the Education Minister was met at the presentation of an Excellent Service Award where he honoured 471 ministry staff who displayed excellent services throughout 2016.
