Main roads in Kuantan closed for Merdeka parade

KUANTAN: Several main roads here will be temporarily closed to motorists for Merdeka parade on Friday. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Noor Yusof Ali, said the road closure would involve two phases - rehearsals which starts today and the actual day on Friday. “The first phase involved Jalan Mahkota (from the slip road towards Jalan Bukit Ubi to Jalan Merdeka), Jalan Bukit Ubi (from Lembaga Tabung Haji slip road towards Jalan Mahkota/Taman Kerang), Jalan Masjid (from Hotel Shahzan Inn to the state mosque) and Jalan Taman (from Jalan Mahkota junction towards Jalan Besar exit). “The first phase of road closure is from 6.30am until 12.30pm,” he said in a statement today. Mohd Noor said the second phase, which starts tomorrow (Wednesday) involved Jalan Tanjung Lumpur, Jalan Besar, Jalan Teluk Sisek, Jalan Merdeka, Jalan Mahkota, Jalan Penjara, Jalan Taman and Jalan Tanah Putih from 9.30am until 11.45am. He said for the closure at Jalan Tanjung Lumpur starts from in front of Hospital KPJ towards the Jalan Teluk Sisek traffic light junction. Meanwhile, Jalan Teluk Sisek would see closure from the traffic light junction towards Jalan Merdeka-Jalan Mahkota-Jalan Penjara-Jalan Tanah Putih. He advised those attending the celebration to come early and park at the designated areas. “The public are also reminded to follow instructions given by the police and not to leave valuable belongings in their vehicles,” he said. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
