Malaysian motorcyclist arrested for not stopping at immigration clearance

A Malaysian man has been arrested for failing to stop for immigration clearance at Woodlands Checkpoint on Tuesday morning, said a statement by Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA).

At 3.40am, the 33-year-old man riding a Malaysia-registered motorcycle tailgated the motorcycle in front of him and did not stop for immigration clearance.

ICA officers sounded the alarm and locked down the checkpoint. The motorcyclist was placed under arrest, and checkpoint operations resumed at 3.50am.

The man did not have a travel document and has been charged in court for failure to present a passport for clearance and for failure to stop his vehicle upon point of entry under the Immigration Act.

If convicted for failure to present passport for clearance, he may be fined up to $1,000 or jailed up to six months or both.

For failing to stop his vehicle upon point of entry, he may be fined up to $2,000 or jailed up to six months or both.
