Malaysia's AirAsia X plans new Airbus order

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 (Reuters) - Malaysia's AirAsia X Bhd , the long-haul arm of Asia's largest low-cost airline, is scheduled to sign an order for planes from France's Airbus this week to meet its aggressive expansion plans.

The budget airline said it will hold a news conference in Paris on Wednesday to announce "new major Airbus aircraft orders."

In May, AirAsia (AIRA.KL), the parent company, said it may order an additional 50 Airbus A320 jets on top of its existing record order for 475 Airbus models.

It said the at the time that the additional aircraft would be mainly for India, where it expects its new affiliate, AirAsia India, to launch in the fourth quarter.
