SINGAPORE — A 21-year-old man was charged on Wednesday (13 May) with stabbing another man multiple times on his body and head at a small garden in Jurong West.

The attack was one of four on Sunday that made the news and went viral with photos circulating online.

Edmund Kam Wei Liang was charged with one count of voluntarily causing grievous hurt to Teo Jia Wei, 26, by stabbing him with a knife several times at the small garden in front of Blk 452 Jurong West Street 42 at 7.01pm.

He is said to have committed the act in common intention with 28-year-old Teo Shou Ren. Teo’s case has not been heard in court. The relationship among the three men is unclear.

The alleged act caused Teo Jia Wei to suffer from severe bleeding and was likely to cause death, the charge sheet states. Photos of the alleged incident show a large pool of blood on the pavement.

Kam has been remanded for investigations and will return to court on 20 May.

According to media reports, the Singapore Civil Defence Force said it received a call for assistance at about 7.05pm and that a man was conveyed to National University Hospital later.

The Singapore Police Force were alerted to a case of voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon at 7pm and Kam, who is known to the victim, was then arrested.

If convicted of causing grievous hurt with a weapon, Kam may be jailed up to 15 years, with fine or caning, or any combination of the punishments.
