A man has died after he was shot in Montreal's Verdun borough last week.

Police responded to a 911 call around 3:30 p.m. on July 30, reporting shots fired.

They arrived to find a 31-year-old man at the intersection of Stephens Street and Champlain Boulevard.

He was transported to hospital in critical condition. Montreal police said Wednesday that he had succumbed to his injuries.

At the time, witnesses told police the shooting happened after a conflict on the road between the occupants of two vehicles.

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal's major crimes unit has now taken over the investigation. Police say no arrests have been made so far.

This marks the 22nd homicide on territory covered by Montreal police this year.
