Man accused of killing sister may have charge upgraded, additional charges
SINGAPORE — A 29-year-old man accused of fatally assaulting his sister may have his charge upgraded and face 10 additional charges of wrongful confinement and hurt, the prosecution told the court on Wednesday (19 May).
Huang Bocan was produced in the State Courts via videolink for a further mention of his case on Wednesday, with lawyers Josephus Tan and Cory Wong representing him. The lawyers said they were recently instructed by Huang's family.
Huang faces a charge of voluntarily causing grievous hurt to his sister, 19-year-old Huang Baoying, in common intention with two co-accused, by hitting her with the pole on 4 May at about 11pm at a unit in a block along Clementi West Street 1.
His two co-accused are Chee Mei Wan, 41, and Lim Peng Tiong, 62, each of whom were handed one charge of voluntarily causing grievous hurt with common intention to the victim by hitting her with a wooden pole. A day after the alleged incident, Baoying was pronounced dead at the flat.
On Wednesday, a prosecutor asked for Huang to be remanded as his charge may be upgraded and that there might be 10 charges "in the interim" for wrongful confinement, restraint and causing hurt.
Asked by District Judge Terence Tay if the cause of death has been ascertained, the prosecutor replied that the post-mortem was still pending.
Huang, Chee and Lim, are due in court again on 25 May.
Voluntarily causing grievous hurt carries a jail term of up to 10 years, and a fine or caning.
