SINGAPORE — A man accused of trespassing into Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to take photographs of another man showering had his case heard in court on Wednesday (20 November).

Lau Jun Wei, 20, was first charged in court on 30 October. The Singaporean faces seven charges in total, including making obscene films at Jurong Point on three occasions, as well as trespassing into NTU’s properties thrice – on 24 February, 16 April and 21 April this year.

On his last occasion of trespass into NTU property, he allegedly took two photos of another man showering at about 12.35pm. This constitutes a charge under the Protection from Harassment Act of causing distress or alarm to the man.

Previous media reports stated that police received a call for assistance on 21 April after a man was alleged to have taken photos in the shower cubicles of a Hall of Residence.

Making obscene film at Jurong Point

The charges relating to Jurong Point amount to a breach of the Films Act, where Lau is accused of making an obscene film.

On 14 July last year, Lau allegedly used his mobile phone to record a man masturbating another man in Jurong Point toilet.

Then on 3 April this year, he returned to Jurong Point and allegedly made two more obscene films of him masturbating a man in a toilet at about 7.08pm and 7.30pm.

Lau will return to court on 11 December.

For making an obscene film, he faces a fine of between $20,000 and $40,000 and/or a jail term of up to two years, if convicted for the first time.

He faces a jail term of up to six months and/or a fine of up to $5,000 if convicted of causing alarm.

If convicted on criminal trespass, Lau faces up to three months’ jail, and/or a maximum fine of $1,500.
