The Singapore Police Force have arrested a 34-year-old man for causing public nuisance after he left a luggage bag unattended at Admiralty MRT station on Wednesday.

On Wednesday morning (7 June) at 8:45am, the police were alerted when a bag was left unattended at the bicycle bay beside Admirality MRT station, said a police statement on Wednesday night. The bags contained personal effects such as clothing, toiletries and medication, said the police.

Working together with SMRT staff, police traced and identified the owner of the bag and arrested him at the station. Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had left the bag unattended while he went to a convenience store to make a purchase. Police investigations are ongoing.

Last month, two men were arrested at Aljunied MRT for leaving bags unattended. On 2 April, a 39-year-old Chinese national left a luggage bag unattended at Hougang MRT station, leading to a security alert. Train services in both directions was paused, and commuters were also asked to leave the station.

On 18 April, a 69-year-old man was arrested for leaving a white substance – which turned out to be baking powder – at Woodleigh MRT station. The presence of the substance caused a temporary closure of the MRT station for about three hours.

“The Police treat all security threats seriously and will not hesitate to take action against anyone who cause public alarm,” said the statement. The public should immediately report any suspicious items or behaviour to the transport authorities or the police.
