Two men have been taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Sloane Square.

Greg Hands, Conservative MP for Chelsea and Fulham, said he heard a vehicle had “mounted a pavement and struck pedestrians”.

Police initially said they were investigating a “suspicious vehicle” and evacuated buildings in the area after a car was found abandoned at the scene on Wednesday afternoon.

However a Metropolitan Police spokesman told The Independent the incident was not “sinister” and was being treated as a road traffic collision.

The force later confirmed a man had been arrested on suspicion of driving offences.
