SINGAPORE — A man will be charged in court on Saturday after he was arrested for alleged armed robbery at a licensed moneylender in Bukit Batok.

The Singaporean, 30, is believed to have acted alone and left the moneylender at Bukit Batok Street 31 with $22,000 in cash, according to local media reports.

During the incident, which took place at about 7pm on Thursday, the man allegedly showed a woman a handwritten note.

Two notes seized by the police were shown to the media at a conference. The police seized about $18,506 in cash, the two notes and a bag. The man had allegedly indicated he had a knife in a bag.

The first note read, "Don't panic. Don't shout. This is a robbery. Fill up the bag with money. You have two minutes. Or else!!!"

The second note read, "This is a robbery. Don't shout. Don't panic. Put all the money in the bag and nobody will get hurt. Don’t try to follow. I know where."

The suspect was arrested on Friday morning at Lorong 8 Geylang.

If convicted, he faces a maximum of 14 years' jail and 24 strokes of the cane.
