SEREMBAN: A man who bought fuel for himself using his company card has been charged at the Sessions Court here today, with committing 14 counts of criminal breach of trust involving RM6,500.
Zahari Mamat, 48, who appeared before Judge G. Ramesh, claimed trial to the charge under Section 408 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 14 years or a fine, upon conviction.
The accused, who was a driver for Syarikat Asiagroup Sdn Bhd, had allegedly embezzled the Petronas diesel fuel card entrusted to him at Taman Semarak petrol station in Nilai between July 2 and August 7, last year.
He was alleged to have pumped between RM200 to RM500 of diesel fuel, totalling about RM6,500, for his personal use.
Prosecution was represented by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurhafiza Harun, while Zahari was represented by lawyers, Mohamad Zahid Ahmad and Sivam Mariappan.
Earlier, Nurhafiza requested the court to set RM45,000 bail and Sept 27 for remention.
Mohamad Zahid said the bail should be reduced as the accused is currently unemployed and has to take care of his five school-going children.
The court later set RM34,000 bail with one surety. However, Zahari failed to settle the bail and will be jailed pending remention of the case. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
