Man charged after Carrick assault and Greenisland fire

A man has been charged in connection with a serious assault in Carrickfergus and a fire in Greenisland on Thursday.

The 40-year-old is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

He has been charged with a number of offences including arson with intent to endanger life, grievous bodily harm with intent and non-fatal strangulation.

It follows an incident during which a woman was struck in the face several times while sitting in her car in Prince Andrew Way in Carrickfergus on Thursday at about 19:00 BST.

Officers then attended a fire at a flat in Longfield Gardens in Greenisland at about 03:00 on Friday morning.

All charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
