SINGAPORE — A 35-year-old man was charged in hospital with the murder of his two-year-old daughter on Tuesday (18 June).

JohnBoy John Teo, a Singaporean, is alleged to have killed Ashley Clare Teo at Block 163B Rivervale Crescent sometime between 7.40pm and 11.05pm on Sunday.

The police were alerted to the incident at about 10.24pm on Sunday. Upon arriving at the unit, they found the toddler lying motionless in the bedroom.

Teo, who was injured, was present in the same room.

Both father and daughter were conveyed to Sengkang General Hospital where the girl was pronounced dead at 12.28am.

Ex-wife had custody of child: reports

According to media reports, Teo was divorced from his ex-wife, who gained custody of the toddler in March. She moved out of the house with their daughter about a month ago.

Teo had visitation rights to Ashley on Sunday and he was supposed to return her to his ex-wife that evening. When Teo failed to do so, the ex-wife and her family called the police.

If convicted on murder, Teo faces the death penalty. Teo is scheduled to appear in court on 9 July.
