Police are searching for a suspect and a man is in critical condition after a stabbing in Montreal's Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough Friday morning.

A spokesperson for the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal said officers rushed to the corner of Fleury Street and Vianney Avenue around 9 a.m. after receiving reports of an injured man.

There, they found a 40-year-old man with upper body injuries caused by a sharp object.

He was rushed to hospital and his life is in danger, the spokesperson said.

Police have launched a search operation in the area in an effort to track down the suspect, who fled the scene.

They are asking people to avoid the general area around Fleury Street and St-Michel Boulevard.
