A 21-year-old man is dead after he fell from a building in south Etobicoke early Monday while police were carrying out a search warrant, emergency services say.

The incident unfolded shortly after 5 a.m. at a condo building on Sherway Gardens Road.

According to a York Regional Police Const. Kevin Nebrija, officers were executing a search warrant at the location when they "had an interaction" with the man. Nebrija did not provide any further details about what happened.

Toronto paramedics said they transported a man to hospital with life-threatening injuries "as the result of a fall."

The man was pronounced dead in hospital, Nebrija said.

The province's police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), has been notified, Nebrija added.

CBC Toronto has reached out to the SIU for more details.
