A man in his 20s has died in hospital after he was shot in northwest Toronto on Monday night, police say.

Police say they were called to a low-rise apartment building on Clearview Heights in the area of Black Creek and Tretheway drives at about 8:10 p.m.

Officers arrived to find a man with apparent gunshot wounds behind the building in a tenant parking lot, police said in a news release on Tuesday.

Duty Insp. Scott Shutt told reporters on Monday night that police are still investigating where the shooting occurred.

Paramedics rushed the man to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was pronounced dead.

Shutt said police have no information about suspects and no description of vehicles.

The victim's name and age have not been released. He is Toronto's 72nd homicide victim of the year.

Late Monday night, police were at the scene speaking to witnesses and reviewing surveillance camera videos.

"It is early in the investigation and we are asking anyone with information to call police at 12 Division," Shutt said.

The case is now a homicide investigation.
