Man dies in crash, car fire in Kelisa-lorry collision

DUNGUN: A 24-year-old man was burnt to death after crashing his Perodua Kelisa near Bandar Al Mukhtafi Billah Shah (AMBS) today.

The victim, Wan Abdul Hakim Wan Ahmd from Taman Indah in AMBS, died in the 7.30am incident after the car he was travelling in caught fire near Km90, Jalan Jerangau-Jabur.

It was learnt that the victim’s Kelisa skidded before colliding head on with a lorry coming from the opposite direction and the impact of the crash cause to car to burst into flames.

One of the villagers nearby quickly alerted the AMBS Fire and Rescue station.

AMBS Fire and Rescue station chief Jaswari Awang said following the report, six personnel were deployed to the scene.

Jaswari said soon after the fire was put out, the team took about 15 minutes to free the victim who was trapped under the wreck.

Meanwhile, a police spokesman said the victim’s body has been sent to the Dungun Hospital for a post-mortem.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving and causing death.
