DUNGUN: A 40-year-old man was killed instantly while his son, 10, suffered severe injuries when the car they were in crashed near Kuala Dungun, here today.
Jasni Mohamed died due to severe head injuries in the 2.30am incident.
His son Afiq Haikal was rushed to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu for further treatment.
Jasni's other family members in the Proton Perdana V6 - wife Rosmawati Deraman, 35; three children Aidil Hakimi Jasni, 14; Nuraina Hazwani Jasni, 7; and Aqil Hazwan Jasni, 10-months-old; escaped unhurt.
The four victims were given outpatient treatment at the Dungun Hospital.
The crash occured at KM347 of the East Coast Highway 2 (LPT2) near the Kuala Dungun interchange.
It was learnt that Jasni, who was heading towards Kuantan from Kuala Terengganu, lost control of the vehicle and skidded into the opposite lane before ramming into the road divider.
Dungun Fire and Rescue station chief Amri Mohamad said firemen took about 15 minutes to release the victims who were pinned in the car.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road abd Tranport Act 1987 for reckless driving and causing death.
