SINGAPORE — A 31-year-old woman on a crowded train to Dhoby Ghaut MRT station during the morning rush hour felt something poking her buttocks, a court heard.

She had a rude shock when she turned around to see a 55-year-old man’s exposed penis. The victim shouted at the perpetrator, Mohamad Rasid Mohamad Sani, and took a photo of him.

At the State Courts on Wednesday (4 December), Rasid pleaded guilty to one charge of molestation.

He will be sentenced on 21 January.

Accused exposed himself

On 13 May, a Monday, the victim boarded the train along the North East line towards Dhoby Ghaut MRT station. When the train got to Little India MRT station, which was one stop away from her destination, she stepped out from the crowded train to let other passengers alight before getting back in.

She stood in front of Rasid, who was working as a technical support officer at the Institute of Technical Education at Ang Mo Kio.

“The accused became sexually aroused when his groin area made contact with the victim’s buttocks,” said Deputy Public Prosecutor Koh Mun Keong. “The accused pulled his underwear down and exposed his erect penis through the zipper of his pants.”

Rasid poked the victim for about three to four seconds.

When the train got to Dhoby Ghaut MRT station, the matter was reported to the control station and Rasid was arrested.

District Judge Ng Peng Hong adjourned the case for mitigation and sentencing on 21 January.

The maximum punishment for using criminal force to outrage the modesty of a person is up to two years’ jail, along with a fine and caning. Only male offenders below 50 can be caned.
