A 52-year-old man who burnt at least one police camera at Block 212 Boon Lay Place was charged in the State Courts on Wednesday (29 November).

Lim Sin Ann faces one count of vandalism. He will be held in remand at the Institute of Mental Health until his return to court on 13 December.

According to court documents, Lim committed the crime on 6 November at about 1am. He used newspapers, which he had set alight, to burn the exterior of the cameras.

The offence came to light when a maintenance check conducted on the cameras on Monday revealed that the cameras had been burnt. Police then conducted their investigations, including viewing images from the cameras, and arrested Lim on the same day.

If convicted, Lim will be liable to a fine of up to $2,000 and a jail term of up to three years, or caning.
