  • A Montana man found with a missing Arizona teen this summer has now been arrested.

  • While searching the home, police found child porn on his phone, prosecutors allege in new charges.

A 36-year-old Montana man linked to a teen girl who was found this summer after going missing for four years is now facing child porn charges after police found explicit material on his phone, prosecutors allege.

In July, police officers in Havre, Montana, searched Edmund Davis' apartment where they say Alicia Navarro opened the door, the Montana Attorney General's Office said on Tuesday.

Navarro went missing in Arizona in September 2019 when she was 14 years old. The girl had left a note for her family in her bedroom just days before her birthday saying, "I ran away. I will be back, I swear. I'm sorry."

Her family didn't hear from her for four years. Then in July, she resurfaced in Montana near the Canadian border and was reunited with her family.

Prosecutors now say that police searched Davis' apartment in July after learning that Navarro, now 18, was there. The Attorney General's Office alleges that as Navarro opened the door, police saw Davis in the kitchen behind her throwing his cell phone into the garbage and stuffing trash on top of it "as if to hide it."

Law enforcement allege they found "dozens of images of suspected child sex abuse material" on Davis' phone, with an analysis finding the children were under the age of 13 — and two were under 5 years old, the attorney general said.

Prosecutors allege they also "found computer-generated or animated content showing children being sexualized" on his phone.

On Monday, Davis was arrested and charged with two felony counts of sexual abuse of children. Davis was ordered held on $1 million bond after a court appearance before District Court Judge Kaydee Snipes Ruiz, prosecutors said.

A clerk at the Montana court told Insider that Davis hasn't been appointed a public defender yet.

About 350,000 children go missing in the US every year, according to data from the FBI. Most people who are reported missing are found — of the 546,568 missing person records from 2022, the FBI said 97,127 were still active at the end of the year, a third of whom were children.
