Man gets 5 years jail for carrying knife at Jalan Raja Laut

KUALA LUMPUR: A Sessions Court here today sentenced a 32-year-old technician to five years jail for possessing a foldable knife without permission.

Judge Emelia Kaswati Mohamad Khalid meted out the sentence against Ridzuan Md Nawi after he pleaded guilty for the offence.

The father of two was charged with possessing the knife without permission near Jalan Raja Laut at 7.45pm on July 15.

The offence fell under Section 6(1) of the Corrosives, Explosive Substances and Scheduled Weapons Act 1958.

Ridzuan when plead for lenient sentence said he was remorseful of his crime.

“I need to support my ageing parent who suffered from various illness,” he said.

However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Aisyah Ahmad pressed for deterrent sentence stating that the case involved public interest. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
