Man injured after Aliwal St shophouse catches fire

A Bangladeshi man in his 40s has been sent to hospital after a shophouse along Aliwal Street caught fire on Thursday afternoon.

The man suffered minor burn injuries and was sent to Singapore General Hospital, according to a spokesperson from the Singapore Civil Defence Force.

Reader @eshangar on Twitter sent Yahoo! Singapore a picture of the fire, with smoke billowing from atop the two-storey shophouse.

SCDF received a call at 3:25pm about the fire, which was found on the second floor of the shophouse. The flames were extinguished within 15 minutes of firefighters arriving to the scene, the spokesperson added.

Two fire engines, two fire bikes, a red rhino, a supporting vehicle and an ambulance were deployed by SCDF. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
