Another man who was involved in a fatal attack at Circular Road on Christmas Eve 2015 was jailed Wednesday (18 January).

Lim Wei Ting was sentenced to 29 months’ jail and six strokes of the cane by District Judge Samuel Chua for his part in the assault that left American stuntman, John Denley Nelson, 30, dead.

Lim, 31, was one of 18 suspects who were involved in the assault. Six of them had been sentenced while the rest of the accused are yet be dealt with.

Pleading for a jail term of between 26 and 28 months, Lim’s lawyer, Diana Ngiam, said that her client is a father of two young children.

“His wife is also in court and he is fortunate as he will be getting the support from his family (upon his release). I urge Your Honour to give him another chance,” Ngiam said.

The incident happened when a group of friends gathered at a pub at Circular Road. A couple who were also there got into a dispute and started screaming and pushing at each other.

The fight attracted the attention of four other patrons, who were assaulted by the first group for “looking at the dispute” and attempting to intervene.

The altercation led to another fight at Circular Road. Denley tried to stop the fight but he was punched and fell to the ground, with his head hitting the kerb.

Denley, who was working at Universal Studios Singapore, was hospitalised for a week and died on 1 January 2016 from severe head injuries.
