SINGAPORE — He spied on his maid while she was showering by poking holes into a toilet door and a tin container in which he hid his phone.

The 30-year-old man’s offences were discovered after his sister-in-law called the police when the man harassed her.

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority officer was sentenced to 12 weeks’ jail on Wednesday (26 June) after pleading guilty to two counts of insulting the modesty of his 36-year-old Indonesian maid.

The man, who is married, had an urge to see his maid bathing. He used a pair of scissors to make two holes in the middle of the plastic door of the toilet located in the kitchen. He would use the peepholes to spy on the maid while she was showering.

He also made a hole in a tin container used to store a bag of laundry powder. He would then place his phone in the container with its camera lens angled at the hole.

After switching on the video recording mode of the phone, the man would place the container on a shelf in the toilet to capture the maid showering. He would retrieve his phone half an hour after the victim showered.

He managed to capture his maid in the nude three times between 2016 and 2017.

For insulting the modesty of a woman he could have been jailed up to a year, fined or both.
