A 27-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly snatching a 72-year-old woman’s gold chain in Woodlands.

He will be charged in court on Thursday (30 August) with use of criminal force in committing theft of property, said the police in a news release on Wednesday.

The police received a report at around 3pm on 25 August regarding a masked man who had snatched the victim’s gold chain – valued at $3,500 – along Woodlands Drive 70.

With the aid of images from CCTV and police cameras, officers from Jurong Police Division managed to establish the man’s identity and he was arrested along Anchorvale Crescent on Tuesday.

The suspect is also believed to have been involved in a similar case in which another victim’s gold chain with two pendants, valued at $4,278, was snatched.

If convicted, the suspect faces up to seven years’ jail along with the possibility of caning.

The police have advised members of the public to adopt crime prevention measures such as avoiding wearing excessive jewellery or carrying large sums of cash.
