He had only spoken to the boy a few times before when he saw the 14-year-old at the male toilet in Toa Payoh Swimming Complex, but one day in October 2016, Kabir Md Alamgir sexually assaulted the boy while the latter was in the shower.

On Tuesday (5 June) Kabir, a 45-year-old crane operator who had been working here for 19 years, pleaded guilty to one charge of causing the boy’s penis to penetrate his mouth on 9 October 2016.

Another count of pulling down the boy’s swimming trunks and molesting him will be taken into consideration for when Kabir is sentenced on Thursday.

The boy, now a 15-year-old secondary school student, cannot be named to protect his identity.

Kabir first spoke to the boy sometime in 2016, about seven to eight months before the incident while in the male toilet after the boy’s swimming lesson. He asked the boy if he was taking swimming lessons at the complex. The boy replied he took lessons from 4.30pm to 5.30pm every Sunday.

After that, Kabir initiated conversations with the boy on at least two other occasions and the boy would reply out of courtesy. The conversations took place on a bench outside the shower cubicles after the boy had showered.

Apart from the boy, Kabir only spoke to the lifeguard. “(Kabir) knew that the victim was a student and believed that he was aged about 15 to 16 years old. (Kabir) found the victim to have a good physique and paid particular attention as the victim was always at the complex at about the same time as him,” said Deputy Public Prosecutor Gail Wong.

The day of the incident

On 9 October 2016, CCTV footage caught Kabir, a Bangladeshi employed in Singapore on a work permit, entering the complex some eight minutes before the boy ended swimming class and heading straight for the male toilet.

Kabir is then seen washing his hands and mouth multiple times while looking towards the direction of the pool. He enters the toilet a minute before the victim enters.

According to court documents, Kabir decided to “have some fun” with the boy. He then entered the cubicle in which the boy was showering and performed oral sex on him. Afraid and shocked, the boy protested but Kabir only stopped when the boy said his father was fetching him. He left the cubicle after two to three minutes.

After Kabir left, the boy cleaned his private area thoroughly as he felt disgusted by the experience. He met his father and sister at their car outside the complex but had an emotional breakdown when his sister teased him about being slower than usual.

He then told his family that a “crazy man” had performed oral sex on him. His father returned to the complex to locate Kabir but the latter had left by then. The family made a police report at about 6.58pm that day.

Kabir is expected to be sentenced on Thursday.

For his offence, Kabir faces a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine or caning.
