A 23-year-old Indonesian national hit a man on the head with a glass bottle during a commotion at a nightclub in July last year, a court heard.

While out on court bail two months later, Juliangga Suganda slashed a man’s hand with a machete with a 30cm blade.

At the State Courts on Monday (3 December), Juliangga, a Singapore permanent resident, was jailed for six months after pleading guilty to the earlier offence of causing hurt by a dangerous weapon.

He is currently serving a three-and-a-half year jail term, with 12 strokes of the cane, for the machete incident. He had pleaded guilty to one charge of causing grievous hurt by a dangerous weapon and one count of possession of a scheduled weapon.

Juliangga’s shouted at Yuvaraj’s group as they were talking loudly. Juliangga asked the group, “What do you want?” But Yuvaraj’s group ignored Juliangga’s group and continued walking.

Feeling angry, Juliangga ran back to his home nearby. He took out a machete with its blade covered in newspaper from under his bed. He slotted the weapon into the waist of his pants and ran back to confront the group.

Along with two friends, Juliangga confronted Yuvaraj, during which the victim put his hand on Juliangga’s shoulder and asked him, “What is your problem?”

Juliangga replied, “Who are you to put your hands on me,” before pushing Yuvaraj’s hand away and taking out his machete. Juliangga swung the weapon towards Yuvaraj, who used his left hand to block the blow. After slashing Yuvaraj’s hand, Juliangga fled.
